Employee of the Quarter

The Employee of the Quarter Award is awarded to an outstanding employee nominated by staff. This award represents the city's vision of public work through the ideals of leadership, service, integrity and commitment. The recipient is honored and presented with a certificate at a City Council meeting once a quarter.

2011

1st Quarter- Dale Fenner

Dale was chosen because of his dedication, care and willingness to assist other departments within the city.  He recently helped the Dispatch Center with electrical and other needs during their remodeling project.  Dale has been with the City of Goodland Electrical Department since 1989.  He and his wife Carlene have six children and nine grandchildren.  Congratulations!

2nd Quarter- Shauna Johnson and Amy Thorson
Shauna and Amy were chosen for the many hours they have spent planning community events, giving programs and assisting individuals with whole house audit information for the Take Charge Challenge. Shauna played a vital role in organizing the Good Idea program, which lead the City to become a utility lender!   These ladies care about our city and it shows in their work!

Shauna has been employed with the City since April of 2003 and is the Utility Billing Clerk.  Shauna and her husband Doug have three children.  Amy is the Administrative Assistant and has been employed with the City since April of 2005.  Amy and her husband Charley have two children.  Congratulations to the both of them!

3rd Quarter- Phil Erickson
Phil was chosen because of his leadership in the recent remodel of the museum, the installation of the new playground equipment and the various other projects throughout the city that he has been involved with.  Phil has been with the City of Goodland for thirty-five years and is currently the Street and Alley Division Manager.   Phil has been involved with the Boy Scouts and enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, Kathy and two children.

4th Quarter- Brian Chacon
Brian was nominated by multiple indviduals beacuse of several key factors.  In addition to doing his normal duties well in the Electric Department, Brian went above and beyond his job duties on multiple occasions during the last quarter including electrical and lighting work at the High Plains Museum, work in the Police Department and work on water well motors.  Brian has a strong willingness to do any job well and learn all he can about all aspects of City operations.  Most importantly, he does all of his tasks with a good attitude and truly exemplifies the spirit associated with being an employee of the quarter.  Brian joined the City of Goodland in May of 2011 as a Power Plant Operator and he also works with the Line crew.  Brian and his wife Sara have two children.

2010

1st Quarter - Joyce Sanderson
Joyce was selected because of her hard work, care and dedication she puts forth on a daily basis. Joyce has spent many hours painting the interior of the City and Airport facilities. She joined the City in August of 2005 as Building Custodian. She takes care of the City Offices and the Airport facilities on a daily basis. Joyce has two sons, Kenny and Kevin; one daughter, Kristi and four grand-children. Congratulations!

2nd Quarter- John Hinger
John was selected due to the dedication, friendly attitude and helpfulness that he displays to the public while driving the Public Transportation Van.  John as been employed with the City since June 2001. Congratulations!

3rd Quarter- Joni Showalter
Joni was selected because of her dedication and the professional manner she displays while on and off the job.  Joining the Police Department in May of 2005, Joni has been actively involved with the school/police lunch program and promotes working with other law enforcement agencies in the area.  She is a certified trainer in self defense, teaching programs such as whistle defense.  She is a controlled force officer as well as a standardized DUI instructor.  Joni has been involved with helping the NWKS Family Shelter by collecting old/used cell phones and funds.  Joni is married to Jason Showalter and they have three children.

4th Quarter- Michael Abbey

Michael was selected because he initiated the sale of 60,000 gallons of diesel fuel that the City will soon not be permitted to use due to high sulfur content. Mike established all the contacts, handled most of the phone calls to get the process started. These were things that he was not asked or required to do. He is involved with the Take Charge Challenge and has volunteered to help Seniors replace CFL light bulbs they have purchased. Michael joined the City’s Electrical Production Dept. in January of 1986. He is married to Lori and they have three grown children. Congratulations!

2009

3rd Quarter - Crystal VanVleet
Crystal was selected because of her positive attitude and the exceptional customer service she provides toward the public on a daily basis. Crystal has worked in her position as Utility Customer Service since September of 2007. She is married to Justin VanVleet and will soon have a new addition to their family. Congratulations!

4th Quarter - Danny Kracya
Danny was selected because of his cheerful attitude and always going above the call of duty to do what is best for the City. Since 2005, Danny has worked in the Parks Department, completing landscaping and roofing projects. He is also involved with the care and preservation of the trees throughout the City parks. He is married to Diane and has two sons, Kris and Jason. Congratulations!
